Cubist Extra Credit

Here's what you need to do:

  1. Find an example of cubism on the internet.
  2. Post a link to the artwork in the comments of this post.
  3. In your comment, tell us a little bit about the art. Who made it? When? Why did the artist choose cubism as a style? What's your opinion? (It doesn't  hurt my feelings or your grade if you don't like, but be sure to dislike it thoughtfully.)
  4. Be sure to include your name in your comment. This is a public forum, so conventions matter. Use capital letters and correct spelling.

This painting is called "Cassie Thinking About Cubism" by Philip Aboloson.
He made this in 2008. I don't why he chose cubism as a style, by reading about him it seems that he's into a lot of different kinds of work.
Personally, I like this piece of work. I like it because I love cats and I like the colors he used.

This is called A Cat named Picasso, by Anthony Falbo and painted in 2006 I believe.

I don't like the style in which he drew this piece. Cubism just isn't my thing. I guess it's too abstract for me.
    Cats are ma favourite though.

"The Weeping Woman" was painted by Pablo Picasso in 1937.
Pablo Picasso was one of the first artists to experiment with cubism. He didn't like the aspect of natural objects so he used geometry to create this abstract style of art.
In cubism the main focus is how the artist used color and formation. I like how the style is not made to look realistic; but, like an optical illusion. The artwork shows the particular object from different view points at once unlike most paintings that are painted like a picture.
In my opinion, I think cubism is an interesting style of art to study.

    (Top Left of site)

This painting is named "Compotier, bouteille et verre" and was created by Georges Braque.
This was made in 1912. George chose cubism as a style because it reflected his new interest in geometry and simultaneous perspective.
I like this painting because its not just a bunch of cubes and when you look at it you don't know what there is exactly but when you look at it closely you can see many different things made out of the cubes, explaining why he was into perception.

This was made my a man named Kael, and was digitally painted in 2010. He created it for a college self portrait project, and he chose to do cubism as it being a requirement.
I actually like this picture. I think it's cool the way his face just comes out of the picture. I wish there was more color, but I think it's pretty neat.
